UKIPT London: 51 in the Hunt for Main Event Title

London, UK

Day 2 of the UKIPT London Main Event started with 323 players all with hopes of  leave the Grand Connaught Rooms  in a couple of days with the title and the £133,500 first place prize. All of the players taking their seats were also keenly aware at about half of them would go home with only memories, as only 159 players would make the money.

Daiva Barauskaite’s fate at the tables reflected that of many players.

Other players hit the rail with seemingly only themselves to blame.

It took only until the second level of the day for the bubble to burst when Deborah Worley-Roberts called an all-in on the river holding two pair.  To her dismay, her opponent tabled a full house and the bubble girl made her exit with the familiar “That’s poker!”

Some other well-known names that failed to make the money include Ben Jenkins, Bertrand ‘Elky; Grospellier, Sylvain Loosli,  Shannon Shorr, and PCA champ Dimitar Danchev.

PokerStars Team SportStar Fatima Moreira De Melo  had a decent run on Day 2.  De Melo has played in a grand total of  four UKIPT events and cashed in all four. She was eliminated in 59th place.

In all 51players survived the eight one-hour levels of play today and will return on Saturday for Day 3 with their hopes still alive for capturing the title.

The overwhelming chip leader going into Day 3 is Vladimir Troyanovskiy with a healthy 1,399,000 chips. Troyanovskiy has been a force on the EPT over the last few years and has pocketed $2.6 million in tournament earnings.  He showed a great deal of patience until he was in the money and then with a combination of skilful play and a little luck put on a demonstration of power poker.

Start of Day 2 chip leader Eric Theissen will return on Saturday hoping to unseat Troyanovskiy at the top of the leader board as will Gino Levrini, Thomas Dunwoodie,  and Antonio Gonzalez.

Play resumes on Saturday with plans to play down to the final table.
