Akademnuk And Joao Take Down A Sunday Million Each

As promised, PokerStars delivered two Sunday Million events on Sunday, as part of their “Double Vision” promotion. This meant that each of the usual weekly tournaments they held on Sunday was doubled up.

There is no bigger weekly online poker tournament than the Sunday Million, with this week players having the opportunity to play in two of them if they so desired. So 30 minutes after the start of this one, the Sunday Million II set off in action.

The Sunday Million!

The first run of the Sunday Million attracted its usual healthy number of players as 8,027 registered. This created a prize pool of $1,605,400, which smashed the $1 million guarantee. This also meant that 1,170 of these players will get paid whilst the remainder would leave empty handed.

The eventual winner was “Akademnuk” who ended up winning a massive $219,425.24 for his efforts. An amazing feat when you consider the amount of players and the fact that there were many PokerStars Team Pros taking part such as Pius Heinz, Ana Marquez and Fatima Moreira de Melo.

However, the former winner of a PokerStars Super Tuesday event last year has now added the Sunday Million to his belt as he won heads up versus “Kabira”. He held the Ad-Jc against his opponents pocket fives on a board of 2c-As-2s-9d-3h.

How It Finished:

1 Akademnuk – $219,425.24

2 Kabira – $197,982.81

3 sebbau – $120,405.00

4 birdyfcn – $80,912.16

5 Slagteren – $64,216.00

6 BigO – $48,162.00

7 Flamboyantz – $32,108.00

8 Brankerr – $18,462.10

9 ROFLshove – $12,441.85

The Sunday Million II

The second run saw not quite as many players taking part as the first one but there were still enough to break the $1 million prize pool guarantee. In total there were 5,957 players which created a prize pool of $1,191,400 with the top 855 players set to end up being paid.

The winner was “Joao M” who took home $184,699.79, having beaten the large field which also contained a number of PokerStars Team Pros. In fact many of them were playing in both such as Ana Marquez, Bryan Huang, Fatima de Melo and Dag Palovic.

Whilst many of them made the money, the best they could achieve was Palovic’s finish in 76th. This paved the way for “Joao M” to get to the final table and then heads up where he won against the Irish player “wesko78”.
