The French poker professional made this announcement on Twitter, clearing much of the doubts regarding his absence from the SCOOP 2014 tables. This is one of the most important online tournaments and many poker pros look forward to it, including Elky. His plans were shattered by a wrongdoer who apparently took advantage of an unsuspecting Bertrand to strip him of his bag and his possessions.
We don’t know yet how much money was stolen and whether there were other valuables inside the bag, or if the RSA token was the most important thing missing. It is routinely used by poker pros to log in to their online accounts and without it, there was very little for Bertrand to do. Unable to play in the SCOOP he let the world know about his mishap via Twitter:
Got my bag stolen and lost everything including RSA token which made me unable to play #SCOOP2014 … #whenwillitend

Most of those who follow him on Twitter were quick to respond to this message and some even tried to comfort him for his loss. Obviously, there were many who insisted on seeing the glass half full and some who had a hard time sharing the grief of a millionaire poker player:
@elkypoker at least ur still a multi millionaire — Ross radford (@Rossradford11) May 4, 2014
This is not the first time that successful poker players are targeted by criminals and definitely not the worst case. Some were beaten, others got robbed and some were even targeted by burglars who had inside information. The story of Jonathan Duhamel is well known among poker players, as the pro got robbed on Christmas after his girlfriend provided them with the info. The poker player was severely beaten, but eventually the perpetrators were brought to justice and most of the money and goods recuperated.
Not surprising, there were some who made the connection between Elky’s stolen bag and the more serious case of Duhamel:
@elkypoker @_fpc_ je pense que @JonathanDuhamel dirait que c’est crissement sick
