Cates: Quiet WSOP But Loses Several Side Bets

A recent video interview by PokerTube with Dan “jungleman12” Cates has revealed that although he did not play many events at this year’s World Series of Poker, he has been trying to win some money by taking part in some side bet action.

Unfortunately for him, as he reveals, they have not quite worked out the way he planned. First he admits that he lost an amount in the “mid-six figure range” by taking part in the Negreanu/Ivey bracelet bet. This bet was won when Phil Ivey notched up his tenth bracelet, meaning that he and Daniel Negreanu took home some bonus money from the side bets.

Secondly, he speaks about a side bet he had with Tom “Durrrr” Dwan involving a poker bot called “The Corporation”. Dwan won that bet, though the amount of money involved has not been revealed as of yet by either player.

He does comment about it on the 2+2 forum where he said:

Tom Dwan > Corporation :( , I was part of it …

btw the bot doesnt play GTO”

Cates did have some good news at the World Series of Poker though, revealing that he had a piece of ‘Big One For One Drop’ winner Dan Colman, though he does not declare just how much of the $15 million he won.

The interview is actually very interesting and worth checking out especially because it gives an insight into what many professional poker players are doing to make money when they are not even playing poker.
