Choi Wins Massive $6.4 Million In Macau And The London Poker Festival Is About To Start!

Stanley Choi has just won a staggering $6,485.560 by taking down the 2012 High Stakes Challenge in Macau. That is the tenth biggest tournament payout in the history of poker and easily the biggest payday he has ever achieved.

There were a total of 73 players taking part in the $257k buy-in event which was being hosted by the StarWorld Hotel’s Poker King Club. The huge buy-in is what provided the huge prize pool, whilst 21 players actually opted to buy back into the event once they were eliminated early.

This brought the total prize pool to $23,511.128 with the biggest slice of course going to the winner Choi.

These high roller style events have really started to grow in popularity amongst the biggest names in poker. The $1 million buy-in Big One For One Drop being a newcomer to the WSOP for example and the $250k buy-in event at the Aussie Millions.

The main difference between those two events and the one here in Macau is that they didn’t have a re-buy feature and didn’t attract as many players. The first place prize here is actually outdone by the Big One for One Drop and the previous eight World Series Of Poker Main Event payouts.

Who Showed Up!

With a high stakes tournament like this, you can be certain that some of the biggest names in poker are going to show up. Some of the most well known that did show up yet didn’t manage to make it into the money were Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, Erik Seidel and Igor Kurganov.

Some of the famous names that did make the money include J.P Kelly, Sam Trickett, Di Dang, John Juanda and a certain Phil Ivey.

With regards to Tricketts, the Englishman sits with the second highest career earnings of all time from poker with $17,418.275about $6 million behind Esfandiari and slightly ahead of Ivey who has $17.134.556 career earnings to date.
