There had been a gap in the Season 11 European Poker Tour schedule, leaving players and fans wondering just what stop that they had up their sleeves. Well now it has been revealed that Malta is that new stop and will host their very first EPT event in the country.

The festival will take place between the 18th and 28th of March next year  and whilst the full schedule of events has yet to be revealed, we are pretty sure that there will be a good selection of events including a Main Event and a High Roller.

Edgar Stuchly, who is the European Poker Tour President had this to say on the announcement:

“After discussions with players and fellow colleagues, we decided that it was time to add a fresh and exciting stop to the EPT schedule, Malta is a great destination for an EPT and we expect strong participation numbers. With excellent connections to all major European cities, a warm Mediterranean climate, delicious local cuisine and lots of great tourist activities, Malta is the perfect place for players to come with their friends and family next spring.”

Michael Holmberg, who is the PokerStars General Manager in Malta had this to add on the new EPT stop:

“Malta is where PokerStars.eu is based, so we are very happy to bring the EPT home to what is the perfect combination of a 24/7 poker offering as well as the chance to escape the grind and discover everything that Malta has to offer.”

The event will be held at the Portomaso Casino which has already major events in the past from tours such as the World Poker Tour and PokerStars Italian Poker Tour. Eros Ganzina, the General Manager of Portomaso Casino showed his delight when he said in a statement:

“We are delighted and proud to announce our new collaboration with PokerStars and the EPT. Malta is renowned as a very popular poker destination and in the last five years Portomaso Casino has proved to be more than capable of hosting large scale events. The EPT is obviously a landmark for us and we are looking forward to hosting such a prestigious tournament. We are positive that poker players will enjoy the new EPT destination.”

EPT Malta will also Host European P.O.Y Awards

To make the stop extra special is the news that the Global Poker Index European Player of the Year awards will be held during it too. Malta has had a major role in the success of online poker over the years, making it an ideal location to hold not only the new EPT stop but also the European Poker Awards.

Alex Drefuss who is the CEO of the GPI said:

“Malta has been the hub for online gaming and poker for the last ten years, EPT Malta is a great platform to organize the GPI European Poker Awards and to make it really successful by connecting players and industry stakeholders in such a great place.”

We will of course let you know of the schedule of events as soon as they have been released by the EPT, so make sure you pop back every now and again to check.
