Full Tilt UKIPT Galway – Hansen Wins It For The UK?

Gus Hansen live

On the fourth day of the Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway Festival there were tournaments a plenty going on, though the one attracting the biggest interest was that of the UK vs. Ireland Heads Up Challenge, which was down to its four remaining players at the start of play.

The event started on Monday with 16 players taking part for each team, though as you may have already figured out, Gus Hansen is not British or Irish. However, it seems that the Scandinavian Hansen was made an honouree Brit for the occasion.

The first day saw him win each of his three matches and in fact saw the UK team already secure the win as all of Team Ireland was eliminated in a dominating display. He was one of four players that had to return for the second day of action but this time he was representing Ireland and was all in green. His first match up was the semi final against Max Silver, a match in which he took down for the Irish and left him heads up against Dave Nicholson.

The switch of allegiance didn’t seem to affect his performance as he went on to claim the win and even the scores up a little bit for the Irish. It finished as 44 – 36 in the UK’s favour but it was an ‘Irishman’ that won the event overall.

He might not have been having the best of it at the high stakes tables over at Full Tilt Poker but Hansen clearly shows he still has the game to match anyone after walking away with this title and the €16,151 winner’s cheque.
