The Global Poker Index has continued its expansion on the poker scene by not only acquiring the European Poker Awards but also creating the American Poker Awards.

The European Poker Awards ave been running for the past 13 years and it hands out 19 different awards across a variety of categories. Despite this, there has never been a North American Poker Awards, until now that is.

Alex Dreyfus from the Global Poker Index told Pokerfuse “Without a North American counterpart, it always felt like something was missing, now, with poker on the eve of a new resurgence in the US, it’s the perfect time to change this.”

Dreyfus plans to replicate the success that the European Poker Awards has had over the years and has already decided that the location to host the American Poker Awards will be Los Angeles. He does not see the need to make any major changes to how the European equivalent is run and in fact stated that he loves the nomination process.

“Moreover, I love the way it is organised with a nomination panel and an independent Jury, which i believe is the best way to make it transparent and accurate.”

He continued by telling Pokerfuse that he felt this was the right time to create the American Poker Awards as he is confident that there is going to be a new poker boom emerging in California.

“We are at the eve of a poker boom in California, with the pending online regulation, and it would definitively help both the live and online poker industries to create a rendez-vous that will not only attract the attention of the poker world, but garner mainstream attention as well,”

All of this ties in very well for the Global Poker Index who have been strengthening their brand extensively over the past few years. The brand will have been strengthened even further with the release of their free magazine during the World Series of Poker.

The magazine was started to be distributed across all of the hot spots in Las Vegas on the 1st of June and included a schedule of proceedings in the WSOP and other big events in the city, a survival guide for Las Vegas and a very interesting interview with PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst who also graced the cover.
