GPI Update – Colman New P.O.Y Leader

up and down arrows

We finally have a change at the top of one of the Global Poker Index rankings for the first time in months as Dan Colman and his $23+ millions in earnings in 2014 has finally put him at the top of the tree in the Player of the Year rankings.

As you are probably aware now, the Global Poker Index is the number one recognised ranking system for live tournament players the world over and uses a scoring system to rank players. The Player of the Year rankings are calculated based on results during the current year whilst the GPI 300, which ranks the very best tournament players, uses a formula that ranks players based on results over a three year period.

The GPI 300 has not seen any change right at the top from its latest update, leaving Dan Smith still topping those particular rankings. There were some other changes in the top ten however with Davidi Kitai, Olivier Busquet, Paul Volpe and PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu climbing places.

GPI 300

1st) Dan Smith – 4178.40

2nd) Jason Mercier – 3814.33

3rd) Scott Seiver – 3718.11

4th) Davidi Kitai – 3697.63

5th) Olivier Busquet – 3510.06

6th) Ole Schemion – 3444.44

7th) Daniel Negreanu – 3397.44

8th) Byron Kaverman – 3295.01

9th) Paul Volpe – 3226.44

10th) Jonathan Duhamel – 3206.96

Further down the rankings we also saw the introduction of eight new players coming into the top 300. The biggest of the names among the eight was that of recent Asia Championship of Poker Super High Roller winner Steve O’Dwyer who came into the rankings in 98th place. He was also responsible for the biggest jump this week having gained 215 places in the rankings.

As for the Player of the Year, we did finally see a change at the top. Dan Colman finally hit the summit after a remarkable year at the felt. He replaced Dan Smith at the top and will now take some beating to be dislodged before the end of the year.

Davidi Kitai also made progress after jumping up three spots into 3rd place whilst Aussie Millions Main Event winner now sits in 6th place after making a jump of six places.
