The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Blackpool got into full swing yesterday as 71 players bought in to the event hoping to claim a big local title and a good score along to go with it. However come the end of a tough nine levels it was Richard Pearson that finished up with the chip lead over the 28 survivors.
The event attracted some big names including that of PokerStars Team Pro Jake Cody who is returning to the city where he first ever played a live tournament back in 2008. He has certainly come a long way since then by becoming pokers youngest ever Triple Crown winner having won a title on each of the WSOP, EPT and WPT tours.
My first ever big live tournament was in Blackpool in 2008, going back today to play the £1k main event

Unfortunately it was not the return he would have hoped for so far as he was sent packing on Day 1a along with many others. He will bounce back though and it’s not as if he is short of money.
The action was fast and furious on the first opening day flight which led to 43 eliminations within just six one hour levels. Among those that fell short on Day 1a were Simon Deadman, Karl Mahrenholz, John Eames and Jake Cody himself, though we expect a few of them to buy back in to the event today on Day 1b.
The field is a mix of both local players and some more experienced professional players which can only point to some high octane action at the tables throughout the remainder of this event.
