Macau Poker Cup ME Day 1b: Yip At The Tip Of Leaderboard

Macau Pokerstars

Day 1b of the Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon was completed not so long ago as a stronger field than yesterday of 234 turned up to try and negotiate their way through to Day 2 and inch ever closer to the paying places.

There were three PokerStars Team Pros on show today as they obviously wanted to be the first MPC winners at this venue. There was Celina Lin, Raymond Wu and the ever popular Vivian Im at the felt but none of them could actually do enough to progress.

They were joined on the rail by various other notable names in the poker world such as Jeff Rossiter, Cheong Chong, Yoshitaka Okawa and David Steicke.

A player that certainly didn’t have to worry about being eliminated was the chip leader, come the end of the day Brian Long Yip who bagged and tagged 180,900 chips. That puts him out in front overall in the event, thus far with his closest challenger being the second placed player from this day’s action Michelangelo Longabela on 118,900.

Lip completely dominated to give himself a massive lead at this early stage of the event and will now be full of confidence come Day 2 on Saturday. He topped a surviving field of 63 players that will progress from Day 1b, which gives a combined total of 98 going into Day 2 so far.

The event which is being held at the PokerStars LIVE room in the City Of Dreams in Macau for the very first time still has one more opening day flight to get through, with it expected to attract the largest field of the three opening days so far.

They are aiming for at least 250 players to break the 600 barrier for this event; a total that we do believe will be met.
