Matusow Recovering From Surgery

get well

At the end of September a post by Mike “The Mouth” Matusow on his Facebook page revealed that he was about to have surgery on his back. He had been feeling pain for a couple of months and a trip to the doctors revealed that he had a protrusion measuring 7mm in the central disc of his spinal cord that was affecting the blood supply to his spine.

“Tomorrow morning Im playing my biggest poker hand ever as Im going for surgery. Please pray for me,”

However, it seems apparent that there were complications with the planned surgery which meant that he had to stay in the hospital for longer than anticipated and now has to learn to walk all over again. This was first revealed by Phil Hellmuth when he tweeted:

This was confirmed by Matusow through more posts on his Facebook page that read, as PokerNews report:

I just woke up as Im still in hospital from my surgery that I had last Sunday. It was very difficult week but everything points to me walking again and making a full recovery with a lot of physical therapy on horizon on learning how to walk again. I cant begin to today how blessed I am to have such wonderful friends, fans, and family who truly care. Im looking forward to tackling another obstacle in my path once again, [one] that will make me even stronger.”

Just got up onto end of bed by myself for first time. Feels so good having nothing pressing on back [and] with air in room running down it, after a horrible night of sleep and some severe pain, I have woken to a great breakfast and Im getting ready for a nice shower and the goal of walking 50 steps today after doing 12 yesterday. I feel so blessed. Will keep everyone updated on progress.”

News quickly spread of the surgery and the problems that Matusow was having and a number of friends and fellow pros were quick to tweet their support.

We, of course, also wish Mike the very best and hope for a speedy recovery so that he can get back to the tables and provide the sort of entertainment that we all love.

We will update you on his condition if we hear any further news and we are sure that Mike who has been through a lot in his lifetime will once again show the fight to come back even stronger.
