Middleton Ships The WCOOP Challenge Main Event For $500k

It’s been a pretty good time of late for British pro Tom Middleton, having won the EPT Barcelona Main Event six months ago for €942,000, then chalking up another $89k not too long after in the PokerStars Sunday 500 and then securing another $72k after making a final table at an event in the WCOOP.

Now he has gone and done it again after securing the title and a payout of $500k after winning the WCOOP Challenge Main Event.

The $2,100 buy-in event brought in a huge field of 1,624 players creating a prize pool of $3,248,000 to be shared among the best 216 players. Just making it into Day 2 is an achievement in an event with a field as big as that, but then to make it to a tough final table and beat the likes of David “WhooooKidd” Baker and Bryn “BrynKenney” Kenney to the title is what dreams are made of.

He managed just that after coming into Day 2 in 7th on the chip counts and managing to consistently add to his stack before eventually getting heads up with “bboooommmmmm”. Once he did he had about 4 million more chips than his opponent and they discussed a chop of the prize pool.

Middleton locked up $460k whilst his opponent was happy to seal a payday of $422,594. They played out for the remaining $40k and the free ticket into the WCOOP Main Event that costs $5,200.

Once play got underway again “bboooommmmmm” actually managed to pull level with Middleton before a massive hand spelled the beginning of the end for the player from Israel. He had the Ad-10d and bet hard with it only to see his hand miss the flop of Jd-8s-3h. He tried again to get his opponent off the hand with another raise on the turn and then an all-in shove on the river only to find that Middleton had top pair.

He was now crippled with just 142,150 which he sent into the middle on the next hand with the 3h-9h and was called by the 2h-5s of Middleton who hit a deuce to seal the title.
