Boris Becker

Boris BeckerBoris Becker might be renowned for his glittering tennis career but it has turned out that he is not such a bad poker player too. Okay, he is certainly not one of the greats, but he can hold his own at the poker table.

He was signed up to represent PokerStars as a Team PokerStars Sportstar and this sponsorship allowed him to take part in many major poker events including that of the European Poker Tour and World Poker Tour.

He has gone on to record a modest $93,138 in career earnings from live tournaments with his best score coming when he finished 7th in a €500 No Limit Hold’em event at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo in 2008, for a payout of $18,672 and a 49th place finish in the 2013 EPT Berlin Main Event for $19,662.

He has also recorded cashes in the WPT Five Star World Poker Classic in 2009, the $1k NLHE event in the 2009 EPT Prague, the EPT Barcelona in 2011 and just this year in the inaugural ISPT Main Event at Wembley Stadium in London.

It is no secret that Becker is hardly playing poker for the money as he has made more than enough from his tennis career. He prefers to play in charity events such as the Jonathan Ross Charity Poker Special alongside the likes of fellow PokerStars Team Pro Vicky Coren.

He has been followed into the ranks of PokerStars by many other sporting stars including fellow tennis player Rafael Nadal and the former Brazilian footballing superstar Ronaldo. Becker will always be known as the first though and has always been happy with his endorsement by the world’s number one online poker provider.

He is a very busy man with his television commitments that always include commentary roles whenever there is a tennis tournament being played, but we would all like to see a bit more of him on the poker tables when he has some spare time. We are sure that with the sort of dedication that brought him renowned success on the tennis courts, he could surprise himself and become quite a player on the felt as well.
