Sam Trickett

Sam TrickettWhen it comes to British poker players right now, there are none bigger or better that Sam Trickett. The former plumber who grew up determined to be a professional football player had no option to try and find another way to earn big money after suffering a knee injury and found that he was a naturally gifted poker player.

Sam Trickett is certainly up there with the most successful poker players of all-time, well if you are talking financially anyway as he has banked himself almost $20 million from the game. He is second on the all-time tournament career earners list with $19,752,481 with just one man in Antonio Esfandiari ahead of him.

He has played since 2007 professionally and within a little over a year he had already taken home $500k from live tournaments. This was nothing compared to the rest of his career though as he made his real breakthrough in 2011 at the Aussie Millions. He won the $100k High Roller event for $1,508,258 and then went on to finish in second place in the Super High Roller for $1,384,631.

Just a few months later he added another $1,364,666 for winning the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event, but even with all of these winnings he was still to vault himself further up the all time earnings list.

The pivotal moment in his life came one year later at the World Series of Poker in 2012. He decided to take part in the $1,000,000 buy-in “The Big One For One Drop” and although he couldn’t quite win the event, he did the next best thing in finishing as runner-up for a $10,112,001 payout against Antonio Esfandiari.

Trickett seems to excel in high roller events, using his ability to stay calm and not think about the money to his advantage. This was proven further just another year later where again at the Aussie Millions he found huge success. He took down the $250k Challenge for another payout of $2,111,397.

The “One Drop” will be returning to the WSOP in 2014 and Trickett has already announced his intention to enter that event, though this time to finish one place better off than last time. We doubt there are too many people that would bet against him doing it, that’s for sure.
