PokerStars MPC Red Dragon Day 1a – Kuzmin Sets The Pace

The PokerStars Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon kicked into action last night, meaning that we are now officially spoilt for choice with regards to poker action. The first flight of Day 1 brought us 253 eager players, who sat through a nine hour poker session to be whittled down to just 70 of them left.

The man who finished in the top position at the end of the day was the Russian Pro Vyacheslav Kuzmin as he went about his business in building a stack of 175,500. That’s nearly 45k ahead of Enrico Chong who is sitting behind him on the leader board currently.

Notables In The Action

The Macau Red Dragon events are increasing in popularity each year, with more and more notable players making the trek to the poker capital of the world on each occasion. Though many of the bigger names will be starting in Day 1b later today, there were some that opted to get into the action nice and early.

The Asian Player Of the Year Yosuke Seikya was there, as was the PokerStars Team Pro Raymond Wu, whilst they were also joined by David Steicke and the delectable Craig Cockburn.

With regards to Wu, he has enjoyed some recent success at this casino, having won one of the side events in the ACOP (Asia Championship Of Poker) just last October. He will certainly be one of the names to keep an eye on in this event.

Despite a slow start, he finished the day in 22nd out of 70, with a stack of 59,000 chips. He amassed most of this in a big hand right near the end of the action on Day 1a; he eliminated a player when all of the chips went in to the middle when he was holding pocket jacks. His opponent had pocket fours and when the board came down slowly as 9s-9h-6s-6h-3d, he won a pot of 70k.

He did lose a little after that hand, yet he is still well in contention.
