7th Anniversary Sunday Million – PokerStars Ups The Ante

sunday million anniversaryEvery year, it just keeps getting bigger.

The Sunday Million tournament is well known as the biggest weekly online poker event, but once a year, a special edition of the Sunday Million is held with a greatly exaggerated prize pool. These tournaments are meant to commemorate each year that the Sunday Million has been in existence, going all the way back to 2006. For the year 2013, the stakes have never been higher.

To celebrate seven years of the Sunday Million, PokerStars is putting up a guaranteed prize pool of $7 million. This means that the first place prize alone will be $1 million, at the very least. This guarantee is one of the largest ever in the history of online poker and is sure to bring out a huge field of players looking to turn a small buy-in into a literal fortune. To surpass the guarantee, it will take a healthy turnout of more than 35,000 contenders.

If last year was any indication, then the 7th anniversary Sunday Million tournament is sure to be a success. In 2012, the total number of players was 33,732, combining to surpass the $6 million guaranteed prize pool by almost $750,000. With the upped ante of this year’s guarantee, PokerStars expects the record of players in 2012 to be easily broken.

For a person that wants to take a shot at their chance of poker glory (and obviously the big money prizes), there are several different ways to enter. Those already endowed with a sizable bankroll can pony up the $215 entry fee and be ready to play when the virtual cards hit the air on March 3rd. At the same time, those looking to parlay a cheap entry into poker riches will find that there are plenty of other ways to earn a seat.

Leading up to the event, PokerStars will be running a slew of satellite tournaments designed to increase attendance. On the same day as the tournament, there will be an $11 satellite where 1,000 seats to the Sunday Million will be guaranteed. If $11 is still too much to pay for a shot at $1 million, there are even cheaper roads to a seat. To qualify for the $11 satellite, there will be $1 tourneys running everyday from February 24th until March 1st.

In addition, PokerStars players may even be able to enter the event for free using FPPs to pay their way. On March 2nd, PokerStars will host two satellites that cost 50 FPPs to enter and one with a buy-in of 500 FPPs. In total, a guaranteed 200 seats will be given away without players spending any of their own money.

Even if a person is not able to play in the 7th Anniversary Sunday Million, it will certainly be a sight to behold. The view from the rail will include established pros and poker newcomers battling their way to poker greatness.
