Ever since Ryan Riess won the World Series of Poker Main Event this month and claimed that he was the best player in the world, many of his peers have claimed that it takes more than just one major title to justify that claim and that he should see how he does in some of the High Roller events against many of the other best players in the world to see how he does.
Well, he is doing just that after he announced via his Facebook account that he will indeed be playing some High Rollers at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, Aussie Millions and the World Poker Tour World Championship.
However, he is going to be selling some of his action to reduce the amount of risk he is taking. He might have just banked more than $8 million for his landmark win and could easily afford the $300k himself, but he is showing some excellent bankroll management skills by selling a little bit of his action.
A status on his Facebook page yesterday read:
“I put together a high roller package for the PCA, Aussie Millions, and the WPT World Championship. It includes 2-100ks, 2-25ks, 1-15k, and 3-10ks. I am selling the package at $3250 for every 1%. If you may be interested in buying a piece please let me know. Thanks and good luck us!!”
This certainly means that Riess is looking to make sure that he has longevity in the game despite his new found wealth. It is refreshing to see as, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see many others that would not be quite so level headed and would steam into some high buy-in events.
One thing for certain is that it is going to be an extremely interesting few months as we really do see Riess test himself against the better players in the world. Who knows, he might even justify his statement of being the world’s best tournament poker player.
There are not that many bigger events than the High Rollers he is going in for, apart from of course the World Series of Poker “Big One For One Drop” next year, though you never know, a few wins from his package and he might even put himself forward for that.
