The Art Of Ping Pong
The Art Of Ping Pong – November 2014
In 2013 we curated The Art of Ping Pong, collaborating with ten of the UK’s most exciting designers, artists and illustrators to create a set of bespoke ping pong bats. Names both big and small got involved, including Christopher Wormell, Hattie Stewart and Remi Rough.
These one-off artworks were sold at auction, raising over £1,000 for BBC Children in Need, a charity dedicated to changing the lives of disadvantaged children all around the UK.
The project drew acclaim from all corners of the web — from the worlds of art, design and table tennis itself — even featuring on the front page of The Guardian’s online culture and sport sections.
Some of the most well-known names in art and design blogging got in on the action helping to create a huge impression online (when Hypebeast shared the project via Instagram it received over 7,900 likes) so much so that even the English Table Tennis Association and British Olympic table tennis player Liam Pitchford shared the project via Twitter.
In 2014 Beach and FiveFootSix pushed The Art of Ping Pong even further. Coinciding with the online auction, the bats were be exhibited at Beach London throughout November 2014 and celebrated in a limited edition publication.
