The poker community celebrates Brunson’s 80th Birthday!

Doyle Brunson
Doyle Brunson was among the first people to play poker, back in the day when the game was not only illegal but also fairly dangerous. Being among the pioneers gave the Texas Dolly a head start over the field and he is now one of the leaders in terms of World Series of Poker bracelets. Doyle gave the poker community a lot over the course of time, including his insights on poker by publishing the Super System.

Brunson served as an example for many amateurs and provided them with the impetus to take their chances in this highly competitive environment. Now that he turns 80 years old, the entire community rejoices and regular players show their appreciation through Tweets:

Obviously, the ones that owe him the most are poker professionals who realised that with hard work, dedication but also certain abilities, one could make a living exclusively by playing poker. Greg Merson is one of the prominent players who wished Doyle Brunson a warm happy birthday, acknowledging his role in enhancing the popularity of poker.

Whether they chose a more serious tone or posted humorous tweets, poker players from all over the world shared their sympathy for a genuine poker legend. Shaun Deeb nails it with his tweet by saying that if it wasn’t for Doyle Brunson, many poker players would’ve never embraced the game and instead work in 9 to 5 jobs:

Doyle Brunson keeps playing in live tournaments, although not at the same pace as before and when he does he is always the focal point of attention. He made an appearance at the World Series of Poker in 2013 despite announcing his intention to skip this edition and hopefully he will attend the 2014 event as well. Meanwhile, he responded to the warm wishes with a tweet of his own:
