Timoshenko wins Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge

It took just two days for a winner to be crowned in the 2014 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge, with this edition recording 76 entries and with Yevgeniy Timoshenko emerging as the winner.

Not all of the entries were individual players, as some chose to rebuy several times, with Isaac Haxton and Daniel Negreanu using this prerogative 5 times. Haxton accepted defeat one day ago, but the “Kid Poker” was very much alive when action resumed today at noon.

He was the last Team PokerStars Pro still playing and in order to enjoy a positive return on investment he had to finish in the 6th place or above. Soon after the final table began, Martin Jacobson was sent to the rail in the 8th place and David Steicke didn’t last much longer. Negreanu was pretty happy with his result, that translated into a nice paycheque of AU$550,000, or a net profit of ΑΘ$50k.

Out in 6th had Antonius all in with AK vs 63 lost that then AT lost to Timex AQ. That was fun! On to the $250k buy in tomorrow! #onebullet?

By this time, it was pretty clear that Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Mike McDonald will be fighting for the first prize of $2 million, as they had the deepest stacks. Patrick Antonius and Erik Seidel had roughly 10 big blinds to their name, which drastically limited their ability to play a broad range of cards. It was more or less a coin flip, but much to his credit, Seidel outlasted Antonius to collect $160,000 more than him.

When heads-up began, Yevgeniy Timoshenko having a slight advantage. He won two big pots in the first 10 minutes for a combined amount of 2.3 million chips and from that point onward there was nothing stopping him from winning the 2014 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge and a nice paycheque of AU$2,000,000.
