Today’s Top Show Biz Poker Players (vids)

shutterstock_120308668If you are watching television and turn to any high-stakes poker event, there is a high chance that you are going to catch a celebrity taking part in the action. With some of the most flexible schedules and larger-than-average bankrolls, it is likely that you will find celebrities that have the time and the money to hone their poker playing skills in poker tournaments throughout the world. Although there are some celebrities/poker players that do not make it above the rank of amateur, there are some show biz members that have actually become familiar faces in the poker community. Below are just a few of the top celebrity poker players that can be seen playing at the tables today:

1. Jennifer Tilly: In addition to being an Oscar-nominated actress, starring in films such as ‘The Fabulous Baker Boys’ and ‘Bullets Over Broadway’, Jennifer Tilly can also be seen playing poker. In fact, she has even stated that she is becoming more interested in poker than acting! In June of 2005, Tilly was able to outlast 600 other players and won her first World Series of Poker bracelet in the Ladies’ No-Limit Hold’em event, including $158,625. Tilly has also won the ‘World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament’ and has competed in several other poker tournaments.


2. Ben Affleck: Known as one of the best celebrity poker players in the world, Ben Affleck can do much more than act! In June of 2004, Affleck won the ‘California State Poker Championship’ and took home $356,400. This win was able to also qualify him for the ‘2004 World Poker Tour’ final tournament. He is also known to have taken poker lessons from professional poker players, including Annie Duke and Amir Vahedi.


3. Tobey Maguire: In October of 2004, Tobey Maguire first demonstrated his poker skills by winning the inaugural ‘Phil Hellmuth Invitational Poker Tournament’ and took home $95,480. Like Affleck, Maguire is also known to have taken poker lessons from professionals, such as Daniel Negreanu. Although Maguire has finished in the money in various poker events, he has only been playing poker professionally since 2004.


4. Gabe Kaplan: Although he is well-known for his role on ‘Welcome Back Kotter’, Gabe Kaplan is even more well-known as celebrity poker player. In 1978, he won his first ‘World Series of Poker’ and finished in third-place in the ‘2004 World Series of Poker’. In addition, Kaplan is also a professional poker commentator that has been seen on shows such as ‘National Heads-Up Poker Championship’, ‘Intercontinental Poker Championship’ and also ‘High Stakes Poker’.
