UKIPT Edinburgh Day 1b – Horgan Takes Event Lead

UKIPT Edinburgh Day 1b – Horgan Takes Event Lead

The action returned for Day 1b in the UK & Ireland Poker Tour Edinburgh yesterday, with a huge field of 358 converging on the Balmoral Hotel. With that number added to the 254 that took part on Day 1a, it gives us a grand total for the event this year of 612.

That figure easily beat last year’s total of 519 and makes this the most successful UKIPT Edinburgh ever. By the end of the session however, today’s field was cut down to just 153, leaving a grand total of 267 players heading into Day 2 of the event a little later today.

The player who finished Day 1b with the chip lead, which is also the overall chip lead, was Liam Horgan, as he managed to accrue 119,800 chips. He is less than 1,000 chips ahead of his closest opponent though, with Robert Young literally breathing down his neck with 119,100 chips.

PokerStars Team Pros Struggle!

Yesterday saw the newest PokerStars Team pro take to the felt, with Jake Cody entering his first ever UKIPT event. He had literally just arrived in Edinburgh after playing at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and was visibly tired; he managed to scrape through the day though, with just 15,500 chips.

One of the older Team Pros, Marcel Luske had also just got back from the PCA’s. He couldn’t manage what Cody could however and eventually fund himself eliminated late in the action after a very up and down day at the tables.

The De Meulder brothers, Matthias and Christophe both felt the defeated feeling too, with both of them not able to do enough to get through.

Notables Who Fell!

For the players that are still left in the event, they will be happier knowing that names such as Dominik Nitsche, Sam Grafton, Simon Deadman, Joeri Zandvliet and man in form Sam Razavi will not be seeing Day 2. Each of them fell throughout the day, with Grafton in fact leaving it right until the very last level of play before doing so.

The remaining 267 players still in the event will be coming back to the felt later today, with Day 2 seeing the survivors from Day1a and Day1b combining in an attempt to make it through to Day 3. Check with us tomorrow for a full and detailed report.
