UKIPT Galway Festival Now In Full Swing

The weekend just gone saw the inaugural Full Tilt Poker Galway Festival kick of its action as part of the UKIPT tour with the action already proving to be extremely popular amongst players and fans alike.

The festival boasts being the biggest ever held in Europe with a total of 60 events being run right up until the 12th of August. So far we have seen eleven of those events completed, though most have been the smaller side event variety.

The biggest of them so far was the €135 + 15 NLHE Galway Cup that ran across three days and finally brought us a winner in Irishman Diarmaid Kennedy who secured a payout of €12,380.

UK vs. Ireland Heads Up Championship

An even bigger event was started up yesterday though, one which certainly got the players feeling all patriotic as the United Kingdom vs. Ireland Heads-Up Challenge 32 players in total with 16 on either side. With just the top four players paid in the €1,000 buy-in event, we are now down to that number remaining with all of them being from the UK team.

In fact, it was complete dominance overall for the UK team as the score currently stands at 43-5 in their favour. Rather ironically, one of the remaining four is not even from the UK in Gus Hansen as he and Dave Nicholson, Max Silver and Kevin Williams battle it out for the largest share of the prize pool.

The UK team showed strong performances all throughout their team, whilst in fact only one Irishman managed to finish in the top ten. Others were happy to tweet about their particular matches and performances.

What is even better about this festival is that all of the action can be caught live via a stream available on their blog site.

Whats Coming Up!

Well once this heads up challenge comes to an end there are a whole host of other smaller side events before we start to see a few more notable events before the UKIPT Main Event starts up on the 8th of August. Take a look at some of the more notable events:

  • 3rd of August – Irish Bridge Masters
  • 5th of August – Irish Poker Championship
  • 11th of August – Media Tournament

We then have the big one in the UK 7 Ireland Poker Tour Galway Main Event which comes along with a very nice €1 million guaranteed prize pool.
