UKIPT Main Event Day 1a – Trigg Claims Early Lead

Jake Cody in UKIPT London

Τhe UK & Ireland Poker Tour Main Event kick started the poker fever here in London. Day 1a of the event saw 246 players buy-in to the £1,000 event and had to try and see themselves past ten levels to progress into day 2.

Only 70 of those players managed to succeed and make that achievement, with Richard Trigg being the player to top of the chip counts. He bagged up a very healthy first day stack of 226,100 chips, giving him 45k breathing space between him and Jack Salter in second place with 181,500.

Many big names entered, such as PokerStars Team Pros Jake Cody and Vicky Coren and local stars Toby Lewis and Tom Middleton. Cody and Middleton fell whilst Lewis went comfortably through and Coren just about scraped it into Day 2.

Others to make it through into Day 2 included Kent Lundmark, Mat Frankland, Barny Boatman and Paul Zimbler, with each of them having various stack sizes. Boatman was full of his usual Twitter quips throughout the event, with him stating that the field is so young.

Day 1b is expected as per usual to attract a slightly bigger field than the one seen today, whilst many more big names are expected to take their chance in the event. The action gets underway again at 12pm GMT and will play through another ten levels until we know who will be joining the 70 survivors from Day 1a into Day 2.
