WSOP Conference Call Reveals Big Changes

2013 WSOP Bracelet

The usual World Series of Poker conference call was held yesterday to keep the media updated and what they can expect from the WSOP this year. The call is traditionally used to both inform the media on what is coming up as well as allowing them to ask any questions relating to the series.

There were five people involved in the call from Jack Effel who is the World Series of Poker tournament director, Bill Rini who is their Head of Online Poker, Executive Director Ty Stewart, Seth Palansky who is the VP of Corporate Communications and the winner of last year’s Main Event Ryan Riess.

So what was announced?

There were many changes announced regarding the events and cash game tables at the series. Listed below are the most major changes that will be adopted.

Evening Events To Start Earlier– Evening events will now start at 4pm rather than the usual 5pm. This has been done to allow more time for playing. Evening events will now play a total of 10 levels or finish at 3am for Day 1 only and there will now be no dinner breaks.

Satellites To Be Held Daily– For many of the major events at the series there will be two satellites on a daily basis at 3.30pm and 8pm. Starting on the 3rd of July until the 6th of July those satellites will be for the Main Event only.

32 Events To Be Streamed Online– Both and ESPN3 will be streaming a total of 32 events on the series. These delayed streams will mainly consist of final tables.

Late Registration Will Be For 6 Levels In Most Events– The only exceptions to this rule will be that of the Main Event that will allow six hours instead and the $50k Poker Player’s Championship which will allow late registration right up until the start of Day 2.

Over 90 Cash Tables Will Be Available – Cash games will be available 24 hours a day during the WSOP with more than 90 tables being dedicated for them. The majority of poker variations will be available and will be dependent on what the players involved would like to play.

Injecting More Fun

Additionally the WSOP has said that it is trying to bring a bit more fun to the proceedings. There is set to be a number of pre-event spectacles planned and whilst they have not gone into too much detail regarding this there has been rumours of a dog show involving frisbie dogs for one of the shows.
